The Lucky Country

The Lucky Country

How we’re inspired by Australia

Why is Australia sometimes called the lucky country? It was the title of a book written by Donald Horne in 1964, and although Horne used the words with heavy ironybecause like just about everywhere else in the world, Australia is riven with inequalities and injustices, on top of a dark colonial history—the epithet has stuck. Because in fact, despite the inevitable challenges socially and geographically, much about Australia does seem to be incredibly fortunate. It is blessed with stunning scenery, some of the most extraordinary biodiversity in the world, and some of the most gifted scientists, entrepreneurs, creatives, and cultural leaders

Inspired by Australia, it’s where we grew Koala Eco from a dream into reality, thanks to an idea which could make use of materials on our doorstep: the incredible healing and cleansing properties of Australia’s native botanicals. The soil and weather conditions, even when—perhaps especially whenthey are harsh support the most resilient and bountiful of trees and shrubs, like tea tree, eucalyptus and lemon scented myrtle. Regenerating after fire and surviving fierce drought, these plants hang in there even when the going gets tough. No wonder their oils have been prized for millennia for their medicinal and antiseptic strength. It’s the pure, enduring essence of this lucky country.
