Why did Koala Eco select a .eco domain?

What’s in a (domain) name?

You may have noticed that our emails and website domain have recently changed, and instead of koala-co.com, we’ve become koala.eco.

That’s because ours is one of the first businesses to be invited to re-badge as a .eco company by the Vancouver-based .eco movement, launched by two former United Nations Environment Programme staffers.

Doing this means Koala Co becomes part of a worldwide coalition of environmentally sensitive organisations committed to sustainable practices. Just three small letters add up to one hugely significant step forward for Koala Co’s environmental credibility, and one we’re really proud of.

It’s more than a few letters at the end of the web address, though: the .eco domain represents the goals and values of the environmental community on an international and multicultural scale. It’s backed by more than 50 environmental organisations including Conservation International, United Nations Global Compact and WWF; so we’re conscious being part of a strong network that unites in support of each other’s goals, and also sets high standards in making a positive change for the planet.

We are so excited to be involved with such a passionate and brilliant group of organisations and individuals, committed to a greener future for our planet. The co-founder of the .eco domain, Trevor Bowden nailed it perfectly when he said ‘we've got this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.’

For Koala Co, .eco means a trusted badge for anyone working towards a sustainable future. For Paul and me, as founders of the company, it symbolises a strong commitment to being kind to the environment not only in our personal family life, but also in encouraging and inspiring our friends and customers to do so as well.
